This 1966 Coupe has come to us in need of a make-over. The past 40 years have not been particularly kind to this one. Rust in the rear quarter panels, the doors, and the front fenders is pretty common, along with a few parking lot dings.
Removal of the front sheet metal revealed signs of past collision repair and a bit more rust. But, having up-to-date registration and inspections, the car is still in service.
In the coming weeks we will remove the rust, repair a few dings, repaint it, and do some interior repairs. |

Now the car is completely stripped down. We begin with the floor pans and work our way up. Both rear quarter panels have been removed. The new ones are ready to be fitted. |

The right rear quarter panel skin is now in place, along with the full length floor pans. Getting the left side ready for rear quarter panel, and the taillight panel with rear valance. A great view of Marty's beveled seams. Almost impossible to detect on the finished car. It's starting to look like a Mustang again! |

We now have the body panels coated with sprayable polyester filler, which will fill in tiny imperfections and make the new black finish look smooth as glass. Just a bit more prep work and we will soon be ready to begin putting it all back together! |

A fresh coat of primer, and it all looks new!
The red tint is a guide coat to make sure the primer gets sanded evenly and smoothly. Now the floors are completely coated with spray-on bed liner, both top and bottom. These floors are now protected from rust better than Ford did it! |

At last, the Coupe has come off of the rotisserie, and is almost ready to stand on it's own. The rear end, with springs, shocks, and brake cables, are now in place.
With the front suspension in place, the new brake and transmission lines are installed, then the dashboard was painted, assembled and wires connected. The engine and transmission are installed along with new belts and hoses and spark plugs. And a splash of new chrome! It's been awhile, but the Mustang once again moves around the shop under it's own power! We should see some paint work very soon! At last! All the prep work involved getting ready for the glossy black paint has paid off! The hard part is behind us now. |
